Tips For Selecting Professional Voice Teachers
Finding the perfect professional voice teacher in Singapore is not that simple. That’s because the teacher’s talent in singing isn’t the only thing you’re looking for here. A lot of people can be quite excellent at singing but a failure at instructing how to do it. Teachers who sound nothing like Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston sometimes prove to be outstanding instructors. Before finding a fine teacher, you must first know what makes a good teacher.
Of course, there’s the importance of talent. Although he/she doesn’t sing like the greatest person in the world, you have to look for certain qualities in the voice. Your lack of strength should be filled up by the instructor’s abilities. If you can’t control the power of your voice, a teacher who has great control would be right for you.
The Singapore vocal teacher should be able to teach the style you want to learn. This should be made clear to the possible applicant before you ask him to start the lessons. Impairing your personal style and technique in singing is the one thing you should not do. You should inquire if he can genuinely instruct you in your chosen style and teach it well. He must be able to build up your technique and singing abilities since this is the main reason you’re hiring him.
Another important thing you have to find out is whether you’re comfortable with each other. It should be both ways since a Singapore voice teacher can’t be at his best if he isn’t relaxed with you. Of course, you won’t easily notice it because he will be professional, but have a feel of him. The same is true with you. You will be more motivated to learn if you have admiration and respect for your instructor. If he could not inspire you into learning, it would be best to find another instructor.
Of course, the price of the lessons is the remaining detail before hiring a professional voice teacher. Even if he is the best one around, it would still depend on the budget you have for a voice lesson. Good teachers sometimes demand salaries as high as their reputation. The right balance should be found between your budget and the skill of the instructor. One cannot live without the other. I am certain you can get someone who meets your criteria.
You shouldn’t fear committing errors once you have started with your lessons. The instructor should be able to convert either a terrible sounding voice or one that sounds good already into something that sounds even better. There’s always more to learn every time you meet. You can learn more about proper breathing, a better style, express your emotions better, etc.
If your teacher doesn’t seem to make any progress with you, it’s time to look for another. You should be able to see this in about two or three lessons. There should have been progress even if it’s just in one area of your singing. Talking to him first would help though, to see if it’s just his method. Your precious time and money should not be thrown away nor should he make justifications. It’s quite simple to change voice teachers as long as you have a valid cause for doing it.
