What Do I Need To Make Pro Rap Beats?
If you are just starting out and are interested in making rap beats, there are a couple things which you should get. This article will talk about the hardware and software which will be the start you beat making career. Making rap beats is not too hard but it does take a small investment to get started.
First I will discuss the basic building blocks of a good beat making machine, then I will go more into the extra stuff that you might want to get to increase the quality and range of your music. Making rap beats is something that I love to do, when you are done making the beat you can freestyle to it, dance to it, or even sell it for some cold hard cash.
The first thing that you should look to get when you are thinking about creating a beat making unit is a really fast computer. I cannot stress this enough… the faster the computer, the better! My computer that I make rap beats on at the moment has two dual processors, which basically translates to four processors. It has a ton of memory and a ridiculous amount of storage space. Why is it so important to have all this? The answer is audio production.
When you are making your rap beats you will be using software that takes up a lot of your computers resources. As computers get faster and faster this may become less of a problem, however these days it is still very important to have a speedy machine than can handle 10, 20, 30 separate audio tracks all playing at the same time with filters, plug ins, etc.
After you have a monster beast of a computer, you will need to get the software to make the rap beats. You have tons of options and this step comes down to what you prefer. Do you like Mac or PC more? Do you want Fruity Loop, Pro Tools, Logic, or Reason? These are all pieces of software that allow you to do the same thing: loop audio files and create full rap beats from nothing. However, you music remember that the program itself does not come with audio files, you need to get these on your own.
When you get to the point where you have a computer, software, and the sounds/plug ins, you will be pretty much ready to construct rap beats from home. A couple things that are optional but I highly recommend are: top quality head phones and good studio monitors. The higher quality audio that you are listening to when you are making the rap beats, the better. If you are listening to your music on stock speakers you will not know what your music really sounds like. Trust me, I learned the hard way.
Making rap beats is an art form and is something that I will continue to get better at. If you want to hear a rap beat that I’ve personally created, my company and website is called Jee Juh.
